[Interview] Together with Jang Geun Suk, PR Ambassador
Ambassador Jang Geun SukPyeongChang 2018 with Asia Prince
Actor Jang Geun Suk has another name. It is 'Asia Prince'. Last year, he was selected as "the best actor of Korean actors". The number of followers on China's Weibo account is about 17.7 million. This momentum has driven his power as a PR ambassador for Pyeongchang2018 . Is there anyone more fit for the Asian Olympic Festival, starting from PyeongChang, Korea, that will lead to Tokyo and Beijing?
From TV and performance venues, I am glad to see you as a PR ambassador in PyeongChang in 2018.
I think that there are many opportunities for me to discuss PyeongChang2018 in that I have a lot of overseas activities. I am working hard every time I go abroad. The Olympics, starting in Korea, will be held in Japan and China. It seems to be a positive sign that the whole world is paying attention to Asia. It seems to be able to show the power of Asia by carrying out a global village festival with neighboring countries.
I am especially grateful for the [your?] popularity in Japan, but unfortunately I heard that Pyeongchang2018 is poorly recognized in Japan. Do you have a custom promotion strategy in Japan?
The Japanese really like the characters. So, I made a promotional booth at the Osaka [Arena] Tour, which was held for two days beginning on January 17th, and introduced Soohorang and Bandabi and also promoted Gangwon-do. On the first day of the 2018 new year, I also put ads on Japanese newspapers. I put my message with the slogan 'Meet me in Korea in 2018'.
You're going to watch the Paralympic Games with 2018 fans. I especially wonder why you chose the Paralympic Games?
It is true that the Paralympics has not received as much attention as the Olympic Games. But I think that the Paralympics is a world of competition with hot passion that is not unequal to the Olympic Games. I think it would be great if more people were interested in it, so I had the opportunity to watch the games with my fans. Since it's 2018, 2018 people (laughs).
Do you have any winter sports you want to challenge?
I like skiing and snowboarding very much, but I want to challenge Alpine skiing. I saw Alpine skiing last year, and the speed is up to 140 kilometers per hour. Because I’m going to challenge myself, I don’t want it to be the last skiing of my life so I’m going to ride slowly and quietly (laughs).
What does Pyeongchang2018 mean to you?
As a Korean, I am very proud. Every time I go abroad, I will publicize this festival to more people. I hope that the World will feel the world of hot [competitive?] games through Pyeongchang2018.
