Actor Jang Geun Suk will be undergoing a drastic transformation for his character in upcoming film “The Time of Humans” (literal title).

On May 23, his agency Tree J Company stated that the actor will start filming for the movie near the end of May.

“The Time of Humans” will be a film about the process of searching for the root of mankind while testing the boundaries of people’s emotions, ethics, and morals. It has been revealed that Jang Geun Suk will be playing a violent and cold-hearted character.

He shared, “It’s been a long time since I’ve appeared in a movie, and it’s an honor to work with director Kim Ki Duk. I decided on this film because I thought it would be interesting to portray a character that just acts on impulse.”

SEOUL, May 22 (Yonhap) -- Actor Jang Keun-suk will return to Korea's big screen with award-winning director Kim Ki-duk's new film, his management agency said Monday.

Tree J Co. said Jang has recently confirmed his appearance in "The Time of Humans." It will be his first film in six years and first work with the auteur.

Kim's 23rd feature film is about a journey to get to the root of human beings while testing the limits of human emotions, morality and ethics.

Jang, who will play alongside Ahn Sung-ki, one of the most established and respected actors in Korea, is said to show a different acting style in this film where he plays a cruel and cold-blooded character.

"It's been a while since I did a film, and I am so honored to work with director Kim Ki-duk whom I respect," the company quoted Jang as saying. "I've decided to join because it appealed to me to play the most instinctive side of human beings."

The actor will start shooting at the end of this month.

Within hours, we learned who all the actors are and more about the role JKS will play.

The complete cast as of today, are from top left to bottom right are: Ahn Sung Ki, Ryu Seung Bum, JKS, Lee Sung Jae, Joe Odagiri, and Fujii Mina. Not pictured is Ahn Sung Ki's second son, Philip, who will debut in the film.
Jang Keun Suk will play will play the lead. His character, named Adam, is the son of a member of the national assembly. He's a dark and violent character. Meanwhile, Fujii will play Eve, the movie's heroine. Fujii worked with JKS a number of years on the Every Little Thing music video for Star & Moon.
Lee Sung Jae plays JKS' father, and Anh Sung Ki plays an old man with a dark and evil character. This character, apparently, will be Ahn's first time in his long career of playing this type of character. He said he's looking forward to it. Ryu Seung Boem, a veteran of other Kim films including Kim's most recent film, The Net, plays a gangster

Joe Odagiri makes a guest appearance as Fujii's boyfriend. He previously worked on another Kim film, Vimon, in 2008. Odagiri is considered the Johnny Depp of Japan because of his unconventional grunge style and wild mop of hair as well as his preferred choice of Art House films. Odagiri is also well acquainted with JKS.

Human Time (the working title) is about a battle ship that is converted into a cruise ship entering into an unexpected new world while cruising and the internal aspects of the people aboard which arise there.  It will test the boundaries of people's morals and ethics while violence, murders and sexual desires are swirling about. Per Newsen, while everyone is asleep the waters disappear and the ship stops in an unknown space. Confused, the people begin to fight each other to for remaining food.

The first script reading was held on May 25 in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
