[Video] Jang Keun Suk on MUSIC FAIR - 2017-10-08

On Friday, JKS took his IG account to remind Eels to watch Music Fair on Fuji TV Saturday at 6 pm. Of course, Eels worldwide did.

I admit I was struck blind by his rendition of these two songs. The arrangements are absolutely gorgeous and fit his voice extremely well. The emotion he displays while singing along with the orchestration encompasses the listener... while the Japanese media (nikkansports) focused on JKS' closed eyes while singing I Love YOU, a song made popular by Ozaki Yutaka, his closed eyes are a reflection of the emotion the lyrics evoke while singing.

Take a look.

Now, here is Ozaki Yutaka singing the same song in English. Pay attention to the lyrics to understand why JKS emotes so deeply while singing this song.

Can you see why he said this song is "beautiful"?

Between his two songs, he sat down with the other singers for a talk session.

Near the end, he was asked to say something to viewers. His response? "Congratulations! For becoming my fan."

Following I Love You and a talk session, JKS sang one of the songs from Voyage, For You. Again the arrangement is really wonderful. The band's playing is softer and more subtle while not consistent with the original arrangement. Essentially, by having the band play the melody softer, JKS' voice has more vocal room to navigate, from soft to strong and emotional, and, thus, take center stage without his voice having to compete with the band.

If you have the album, you can hear the difference. The Music Fair rendition is a much smoother, more melodic ballad.

At the end of the show, JKS posed for a photo with the other musicians who appeared on the show. The JOFC tweeted it.

Here is the video of the entire show (JKS part):

  1. I would like many people to see Prince!😊😊😊😊😊

  2. I totally agree with your comments about the arrangements for these songs. I could hear his voice so clearly, and I really crave hearing his voice clearly. It's full of exciting, emotional colors that sometimes get lost if the instrumentation is too loud. His performances on this show are among my favorites out of all of his performances.
